  1. Magnus: "2861 is decent"

Magnus 20 seconds later: "Getting any better isn't probably possible"

    😆

  2. For him to get to 2900 there needs to be at least 10 players around 2850, and they need to play exclusively against Magnus for a while, and Magnus should win most of them and not lose a single game.

  3. No. I'd speculate that MC reached peak elo years ago like 2014 or something.

  4. He thinks his rating perfectly captures his form, and it is interesting as we know he knows that he can get better, but even he doubts himself that can he ever be 2014/2018 level good

  5. lol it's beyond retarded they won't even show the Russian flag. It's the graphical equivalent of a 5 year old plugging their ears and closing their eyes and hoping something they don't like goes away.

  6. Why this new format of the clips without the video?

  7. Only way to do it is with rating inflation among the other top players. If the rest of the top 20 got above 2800 or so, he could do it. Absent that, it can't be done by a mere mortal.

  8. Lex tell us about your win against Magnus behind the scenes. Dont be shy. You can tell that 😉

  9. Vishy is still the 12th rated in the world…

  10. Gotta be pretty hard to gain rating points when there's literally nobody over your ELO. He probably has to win like 20 games to make up for one loss

  11. Does MAgnus have a coach in the sense of mental preparation like maybe a psychologist? Some top sporters do have them besides the obvious physiologist to have everything optimized.

  12. I see few Americans there. Non of them however Carrie American name. Interesting 🤔

  13. he only has a shot at 2900 if the players in his field start to improve which will happen in time especially now with the incredible youth talent we have but they need to get better quick otherwise they wont hit the optimal rating to make a a competitive field while carlsen is still in his prime.

  14. Regardless of his curent ELO, if there was a player through out the history that can do this it was either Magnus or Bobby Fisher. Now it's only Magnus. End no one else will even come close, ever !!!

  15. the GOAT of chess …. no I don't see 2900 possible

  16. A decent rating of 2861. Good job, Mr. Carlsen.

  17. I'm starting to think Magnus doesn't fully grasp what the word "decent" means which leads me to think calling Hikaru "decent" wasn't a subtle insult at all.

  18. You keep using this word "decent". I do not think it means what you think it means.

I'm pretty thrilled about my 1,000 rating

  19. Magnus prediction to make 2900 , the first half of 2023. I'm an optimist and Magnus is the World Champ the best of the best for over 10 years now. Good luck Magnus.

  20. No, his best chance was when he was 2880+.

  21. they even switched the russian flag with some bs picture, what a disgrace

  22. 'Hey guys, I'm just fucking around here and am this good. '

    Anyone want to show up?

  23. Magnus lost to Hans Niemann with the white pieces. Niemann is currently rated under 2700. This is a huge setback for Magnus.

  24. Think about this: Magnus is the only chess player in the world that no matter who he plays, a draw will always result in a negative score. Even if he drew against Ding he'd still lose like 1 or 2 points. So it's harder to get to 2900 than you think, because the only way he can get points is by getting wins. Period.

  25. So what I’m getting to with all these clips, magnus has lost motivation cuz he legitimately had won everything for almost a decade. So he makes goals to motivated him (that are usually unthinkable ones) to even keep going

  26. Magnus peaked in 2014. It is unlikely he will ever surpassed it. Even in 2018, his peak is literally same as 2014. Practically impossible really. 2014 was Magnus's best chance, youth, ambition, will power, hunger. All it takes is a split second of hesitation and a draw will set a whirlpool of dip in motion. 2018 was obviously Magnus's second best shot and the fact that he didn't toppled his 2014 form says a lot. Just forget about 2019 at this point.

  27. My greatest achievement in chess: I have never lost to Magnus.

  28. 2900 is inevitable whether Carlsen does it or someone else in the future.

Quick note from Lex: The camera on Magnus died 20 minutes in. Most folks still just listen to audio-only version, but here on YouTube we did our best to still make it interesting to watch & listen by adding image overlays. I mess things up sometimes, like in this case, and it hits me hard when I do. I'm sorry for this. I'm always working hard to improve. I hope you understand. Thank you for your patience and support along the way. I love you all.
