The 2018 GRENKE Chess Classic is a 10-player round-robin held in Germany from 31 March to 9 April. The first 3 rounds are in Karlsruhe alongside the GRENKE Chess Open, then after a rest day the last 6 rounds are in the Kulturhaus LA8 in Baden-Baden. The field features World Champion Magnus Carlsen and fellow Top 10 players Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Vishy Anand and Levon Aronian, as well as women’s no. 1 Hou Yifan.

The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If players are tied for first place a rapid play-off will take place. Official website:

  1. +agadmator – can you make some educational videos about some chess openings ? There was a video you earlier did about end games and some videos from the bronstein book about dark square weakness. They are really helpful! Thanks!

  2. Wow, the sexism is showing is some of these comments. What a shame.

  3. Carlsen change the visual in all the tornaments? What is this? Many super sayajins transformations? Where the glasses?!

  4. lol… comparing levon's performance in the candidates and yifan's in tata steel is apples and oranges. also, plenty of people have been saying that levon performed poorly. you, sir, are reaching quite a bit

  5. Agadmator. Queen to B$ Checkmate. I believed it for a short moment. Congratulations you are a very good prankster.

  6. My heart stopped pumping when you said anand was checkmated in such a beginner style..😱😱😱

  7. Play the opening like a machine, the middle game like a machine and the endgame like a machine :p

  8. How is 4,5/14 not better than 2,5/13? That's about 13% less point winrate!
I know you want to defend women playing chess and I certainly not blame Hou sex for her performance, but saying it is the same is wrong. Also Levon at least won a match, Hou Yifan did not. So it certainly comes across as someone who didn't do her homework.

  9. Well, Fabi only scored 5 points in that tournament, and went on to win the Candidates. So, it depends on the scenario. Hou Yifan shouldn't give up, even if she is going back to school.

  10. #question @all the players: Do you think that the opening is any important for club players at a level from like 1400 to 1800 elo

  11. The Chess world need more strong female players. Hopefully Yifan will do well. She does have some great games as well. GL to her.

  12. For those of you scrolling down to the comments, let me summarize all of them for you: sexist men whining about "SJWs" because god forbid women play chess.

  13. If I was playing against Hoe Yifan, I would rather go for an early D pawn push.

  14. in chess moves count not gender but maybe women in general dont enjoy chess and are interested in other things like fashion or cooking…

  15. # Question # to Anand, will he prefer Paul karees or Tal playing style….. Madras 43

  16. Yifan might not be the next judit polgar…but then again she wasnt trained by a certain mr. fischer, hadn't two exceptional sisters(?), and a pushy father. That she is competing ..and drawing against the likes of Anand..at the top level shows that she is no mere wood-pusher…and her style shows that she plays without fear. I am sure she will add something to chess knowledge, if she hasn't already. I wish her all the best as she continues her journey.

  17. Hope you read this comment because your channel become a part of my life after spending whole day teaching students ( teacher )

  18. Congrats on becoming an IM Antonio

    April Fools.

  19. I actually respect the small setion where he defended female chess players, I mean look at Aronian……. then look at Polgar.

  20. Agadmator please complete the series of tal bothvanik match as eagarly waiting for their encounter

  21. Ppraising her wins or calling a great attacker might be the falsification of the phrase that she was too weak for the serious tournament. But showing Aronian grabbed actually more points doesn't really show that you are of an opposite opinion. i don't like gossiping no matter what the statistics say about women superiority over men

  22. Haha Checkmate by Yiufan…that was greatπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  23. Agadmator's "chessy" attempt at April Fool was saying Anand got checkmated at 7:56. I'd have believed it if I hadn't watched it yesterday πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  24. "This knight is simply a MONSTER!" That line always Pumps! Me! UP!

  25. #question this one is for both Magnus and Fabiano "What would you prefer, playing against Tal when he was the World Champion or playing aginst Bobby when he was the world champion?"

  26. #question to vishy #anand Have you heard of Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa? Do you think he can become India's next world champion someday?

  27. Hey agadmator, i want to suggest an improvement. Please switch from one photograph to another directly. Don’t switch back to your desk/feed. It would be a better experience for all users. Just a suggestion πŸ™‚

  28. Carlsen was first on Tata Steel Masters 2018

  29. i was hoping for a fischer vs kasparov game today

  30. Yifan scores 5 draws against some of the highest rated Grandmasters….yeah she should give up chess…*rolls eyes*

  31. "And this was checkmate …" – you little devil you …

  32. Great video as always, thank you. And I agree it’s silly that people are suggesting Hou Yifan should not be playing.

  33. The great thing about chess is that only good moves matter. Not your race, gender, age, etc.
