  1. Hands down, the best chess channel on youtube! 🙂

  2. I never miss any of your videos. You explain the flow of the game along with players plans and intensions. The best,

  3. Excellent analysis again Meier was so close and all the moves that lead to the potential winning position were very logical and relatively easy to see.

It must be hard when you’re playing the world champion to find the wind when I’m sure before the start of the game Meier would be happy with a draw.

Next time he might be less intimidated by Carlsen as might anyone playing through this game.

  4. Reminds me of the Karpov quote "I didn't want to attack. But the position demanded that I attack." Too bad Meier blinked with Ra1.

  5. Sad to see Vishy Anand throw away a Victrory.. against Caruana in round 5 :/

  6. Thank u so much for detail explaination,we love your work..

  7. Hi Danny. I love your channel, I love your videos. I do have to say I don't like the newest bit of branding on the videos where you identify a somewhat click-baity topic To theme the video with. For my taste, I prefer a more straightforward "game of the day" style coverage. Nonetheless, I love the channel and the content. Thanks for everything.

  8. Rh1 just seems like such an obvious move. Rooks like open files, especially opposite the enemy King.

  9. other than your title was clickbait, great work…

  10. 39. Ra1 is a terrible, terrible move. He threw all the great effort up to that moment into a bin.

  11. I understand how a 2000 player could miss the moves like Rh1 or Rf5, but 2600+ player?

  12. That's incredibile! Meyer miss his game of life.
Many thanks Mr. King for your highly instructive explanations.

  13. "and they agreed on a draw", noooo…what? I thought he had checkmated him! well…why Carlsen always get away like that? 🙂 anyway, thanks Daniel, great coverage as always

  14. Fabiano would not have missed the win. Gonna be a awesome match.

  15. Damn, I really looked forward to the checkmate, nonetheless, a great explanation of what goes on in these complicated games that engines don't (can't) tell. Thanks GM!

  16. If that was a blitz game meier would have played Rh1 for sure

  17. There goes Daniel with a spoiler in the video title again… argh…

  18. I watch the live games for Jan's entertaining commentary and I watch Daniel for the serious stuff.

  19. but Mr King how did Meier miss that? incredible

  20. Very unlucky for Meier…..even if you cant see a win, increasing the pressure on the weakness h7 with the open h-file too is unlikely to be bad. Particularly with the pinned g7 Rook and the Bishop that can come to f5. Ah well Magnus breathes again….

  21. As for me this is the same story as in game Maguns Carlsen – Gawain Jones at Tata Steel 2018. I believe both Jones and Meier could easily win their games IF they didn't have a world champion sitting in front of them.

  22. Magnus isn't gettin in his stride.Actually his best was game was the first one where he missed a chance to win

  23. I dunno if I would have found it but I would have tried to. That ending disturbs my chess soul

  24. Could have been the game of a lifetime. Unfortunately it simply was not meant to happen.

  25. Dear GM King: Following your suggested 39.Rh1. black can defend with 39…., Bc6. The rook sacrifice then doesn't work, because after 40.Rh7 Kxh7 41.Kg8 the 9th rank is effectively defended by the bishop on c6. So I don't see how GM Meier's fortress can be penetrated. Looks like White would be down at least the exchange, Do you have an answer?

  26. Exchanging the dark square Bishops is very dangerous in certain openings like the Dutch or French in manylines.
