Longer Chess Games #37 A battle in the Classical Sicilian

NEW GINGERGM DVD!!! The Leningrad Dutch – – download directly to your tablet now!

In this video I get a chance to play the Black side of a Classical Sicilian opening. A very good opening to play against 1 e4.

In this online game I pick a longer time limit, 15+10, my aim is to really explain the thought processes behind the moves that I am playing.

  1. Well played Simon 🥰Thanks for the instructive video.

  2. Some guy didn’t like how long I took on a 30 minute game so he tried to time down his remaining 25 minutes with 1 king basically, and was trying to taunt me about it.I ended up saying “I’m not stuck here with you, you’re stuck here with me”, when he got tired of it and tried to move around without resigning, I just ended up moving my pieces to the corner and waited until I almost timed out.He ended up resigning.

  3. Hi Simon, nice to see you back 🙂 Unfortunately I didn't manage to meet you in London 🙁

  4. At 17:20 why not Qd7 – pin the pawn? Or Kg7 and cover dark sqares

  5. Liked it at 0:00, may as well get it out of the way because I know the video is gonna be good.

  6. A part of my life goes down when Simon doesn't upload these kind of videos , good to have you back.

  7. It did happen to me a lot on chess.com. That's why I only play longer time controls on Lichess. There they disconnect you if someone closes the browser without surrendering the game and if someone is griefing intentionally keeping the game open then they get a warning. I don't know what happens after but I assume when they do it again they get banned. My little problem with the lichess system is that it's a bit too harsh with the disconnects. I was playing blitz on my phone then the bus got into a tunnel and I lost signal for 75 seconds. Had more than than enough time to finish the game when I got the signal back but game was forfeit.

  8. You should have found another game. This was a bit of a waste. I love your videos, but this was a missed opportunity.

  9. Shame about your opponents blunder , i play this opening myself with black and was looking forward to a tactical game. I do like your longer games generally though

  10. "Has that ever happened to you guys?" Actually that is the reason why I don't even play any Indians anymore.

  11. No comments about Alpha zero vs stock fish. You like piece activity and it is proved by alpha zero. Does it play like Tal ?

  12. Great content! I'm excited about the new DVD about the Dutch defence.

  13. The absolute worst are the people who blunder early, then let their clock tick down, hope that you wander off to go do something else, and then play a move when they're down to about a minute left, hoping you'll time out instead.

  14. About the opponent letting the clock run out thing: if you think it's bad at this time control, try playing a 45+45 or 60+30 game on chess.com or lichess. Many's the time I've had to wait the best part of an hour after my opponent has moved way too quickly, got a losing position, and then just sat there until his time runs out. Terrible sportsmanship; presumably too full of ego and pride to click the resign button. At least I can do something else on the computer while I'm waiting, but really annoying 🙁

  15. I didn't mind so much that he played on. You don't get the chance to play a GM that often. And he savoured every moment of it.

  16. Where you been, G? I've been waiting for this…

  17. Liking it before watching it, because been missing his LP so much

  18. hahahha his vdioes are so funny that i will laugh before its starts thanks simoon for such an mazin g vidoe and entertaioning

  19. play with some online ches with kolkata kids they are relly strong chess playres simon sir thanks

  20. Simon: at 11:43, couldn't your opponent have played the buishop to g3 and salvaged the piece? what do you think a refutation would be?

  21. How does a GM make such a blunder in that first game? Whenever I play even 1,500 rated players they play better than this.

  22. I'm a fan of these videos but can you please not say things like "Did he really just fall for this simple tactic?" We all make mistakes and your kind of making him look bad. I'm just saying, if that was me, I'd feel a little embarrassed.

  23. Great to see you back explaining a longer game with your usual clarity, Simon.

  24. I don't even play chess, I just come here to listen to you while I knit.

  25. Great game and commentating as usual – thanks!! 😀

  26. The people who let their clock run out like you describe are the worst. I block and report anyone who does that to me

  27. I love how swiftly Simon destroyed him after he went up the piece. I always fuck up and allow counterplay when I'm up material.

  28. Thanks for the video…. I've watched many but my chess still sucks….. I'm here for the humour, basically.

  29. I play 15 minute only and that happens all the time I think because I'm only 1050

  30. very instructive, love the longer time controls and explanation at a speed I can follow and learn from, thank you.

  31. I can answer what the opening is called. It may be the only chance I get to do that when a GM says he does not know. I don't think this is what Simon normally plays. The variation with 6 B-c4 and 0-0 from White is called the Sozin. And the Bishop should move to b3 not d3 if I remember right. The variation with 6 B-c4 , Q-e2, B-e3 and 0-0-0 is the Velmirovic attack.

  32. I am surprised you still make videos. I was subbed to you a few years back until I quit chess. Guess I'm back bb.

  33. 3/5 games I play when my opponent loses they let their time run out, and usually there is 25+ minutes left on his clock. It is the most frustrating thing in the world.

  34. 0 mistakes, 0 blunders! Great game GM, awesome

  35. lower level players are always milking the clock….

  36. If i ever face gingergm, i will resign after his first move!

  37. I greatly enjoyed your words about non-resigners. People who play absurd positions not only wastes will power but also takes away from the beauty of the game. Keep being controversial!!
