Classical Arena Chess Tournament #1

I competed in the Daily Classical Arena on lichess. It’s a 2.5 hour tournament with time controls 10|0. This tournament was played while broadcasting at .

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. 1. So this is the real Hearthstone expac? I had no idea.

  2. I personally learn way more from this than bullet/blitz

  3. The lurker tournament strategy never fails^^

  4. That second game was awesomely aesthetic!

  5. 1:16:45 Yay you made me feel like less of an idiot for missing all those mate in 1's ❤️

  6. That was amazing watching you hop your way to first place… I did NOT see that coming at ALL. You're lucky that your last few opponents didn't know the subtle art of zhe nona frryyy 👻

  7. @ 59:30 , I had to have said "wow" out loud about 10 times and rewind a few times to fully appreciate how good a move 23. c4 was… Phenomenal move, shutting down any counterplay on the a8-h1 diagonal in two ways: taking the queen off guard duty and reinforcing d5 while at the same time allowing you to recapture the bishop if the knight gets taken first. Amazing! (also those bishops cutting through b8-h2 and c8-h3 diagonal are devastating!)

    By the way,
@ 24:14 , you mentioned just before that he had to move to Rd4 and that it was clumsy. Could you tell me why you didn't follow it up with Be3, Rb4, a3 and the rook is trapped? The only thing I see is Rxf4, Bxf4 and Qxf4+. Is this why you didn't allow it?

  8. What's amazing is that Jerry seemed to do much better when he was berserking his opponents with speed chess than when he was taking his time deeply contemplating moves. Maybe this is because people feel pressure when their opponent is playing quickly and try to match their opponent's cadence rather than keeping track of their own clock? If Jerry berserked against me you'd better believe that I would take every last second of my time advantage (and still lose 🙂 )

  9. I love classical and rapid games with commentaries. Simply the best way to learn chess.

  10. This would have been a good tournament for some nona fries tactics.

  11. That game that ended at 1:16:42 was the only really bad loss in this one. The guy berzerked, took a time lead, then Jerry missed mate in 1. It's good to know he has down games like the rest of us 🙂

  12. Never knew Jerry lowkey treads the path of roasting.

  13. At 24:20, can’t jerry trap the rook with Be3, the rook has to go to b4, and then a3 and the rook has no squares?

  14. Jerry you played better or achieved more in beserk mode.. i guess this was a classical example of overthinking it…when you played perfect moves you were ranked 30th something and when you gone wild with juts automatic moves you were no 1 in no time

  15. Alejandro went berserk, still got ahead on time, and won. Nice game by that player, gotta commend that!

  16. Happy to see lichess taking an active stance against engine use ingame. I wanted to learn and practice whatever ive learned by playing in longer time controls, but was scared the everyone just uses an engine in longer time controls. Now i can play in peace.

  17. The engine cheat was 1st by a long way before he was kicked, 40 to 2nd place's 28

  18. Jerry is such a great guy! We love Jerry!

  19. That Alejandro234 played like Stockfish 10 plays against me!😳

  20. Classical?
Lol, 10 minute games are Blitz on chessdotcom.

  21. Interesting format, called classical but 10 minutes are below the rapid 25 minutes, berserk allowed, Jerry clicks berserk and says "need to play bullet mode here" :))))

  22. After three nights of falling asleep watching this, I finally made it! Watched the full thing lol :))

  23. The marked trout proximally encourage because manx operationally permit into a guttural H habitual train. resonant, loose hardboard

  24. I'm sure I watched this one before, but forgot all the positions and points, so it was like new again. Great finish!

  25. I watched this 4 years ago. Yet I found something productive with my more understanding of positions four years later.

  26. At 18:38 is there a tactic with knight to B5 or D5? Looks like it's working but I can't tell if I'm missing something

  27. Jerry I know this video is 5 years old but I'm wondering if afterward you looked back at any of the potential discovered attacks on the queen (game 2) – there's some really interesting lines.

  28. They could always "Nona Fry" if you know what I mean you've been following this channel for a while.

  29. 9:12 why is Qc3 Nf4 annoying? Don't you straight up win a piece with e6+? And the black queen has to recapture the pawn next move so you're free to do whatever.

  30. What an entertaining, surprising, come-from-behind win!

  31. Love your vids but the voice man is too mono tone please

  32. I appreciate your videos. They are so educational and entertaining. You are never boring.

  33. Someone made a Hearthstone joke around the 3rd match I think. Was great hearing you say it and thanks for uploading this.
